Celli in Napoli

Inspired by the Napolitan cello school and her composers, Theano makes you travel through the beautiful and raw city of the 18th century, with plenty of colors, virtuosity and expression.

Flow my Tears

When the music of the successful violinist Arcangelo Corelli landed in 18th-century London, the Italian hype there was complete. Francesco Geminiani, Corelli’s pupil, was an ardent advocate of his Roman master’s music and reaped thunderous success in England. Earlier, Henry Purcell allowed French and Italian influences to trickle into his instrumental works and songs.

Dowland’s 17th-century iconic Lachrimae of 7 Tears – a masterpiece of English consort music – fans through this programme in a new guise. Dowland’s first tear became one of the most famous songs of the early 17th century: Flow my Tears.

Discover in this program both the piccolo cello and the basse de violon!
